News Desk:
The University of Dhaka (DU) has issued show-cause notices to 403 students for their alleged involvement in “illegal and violent” incidents that took place on the campus between July 15 and August 5, 2024.
The information was disclosed in an urgent notice signed by DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, who also serves as the member secretary of the investigation committee on the July movement-related illegal and violent incidents, on Tuesday (November 4).
According to the notice, the initial fact-finding committee identified 128 students in its report, leading the University Syndicate—at its meeting on March 17—to decide on their temporary expulsion.
Subsequently, the Syndicate formed a five-member investigation committee for a more detailed inquiry. In its second meeting, the committee found evidence of involvement of additional students, raising the total number of accused to 403.
The notice states that the accused students must submit a written explanation within seven working days of the notice being issued, justifying why they should not be permanently expelled.
Failure to respond within the stipulated time will result in unilateral action being taken under university regulations, the notice added.
