Will Resign if Vote Rigging in JAKSU Can Be Proven: Chief Election Commissioner

News Desk: Chief Election Commissioner Professor Md. Moniuzzaman has thrown down a challenge against allegations of vote rigging in the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JAKSU) election.

He said, "If anyone can prove incidents like vote rigging or ballot stuffing in the JAKSU election, I will resign from my job. I won't even accept my pension money."

He made this statement on Saturday at the university's Senate Hall when asked about allegations of vote manipulation.

Moniuzzaman said, "We conducted voting in the halls after verifying voters' information through multiple layers of screening. Polling agents from multiple candidates were present there. Polling officers and returning officers performed their duties. There was continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras and displayed on giant screens. The voting took place in front of everyone. No one has made any allegations of vote rigging or fraud to me."

He said, "Due to demands from some people, we had to count votes manually, which was the sole reason for the delay in results. Those who were involved in the entire process stepped back from their responsibilities and tried to make JAKSU controversial. If any election commission member had complaints about the voting process, why did he resign today instead of resigning on the voting day? This clearly shows that this was done to question the election."

He further said, "Multiple teachers are involved in the vote-counting process. Everything here is also happening in front of journalists' cameras. They will judge the good and bad. However, regarding the voting process, I can say that if anyone can prove incidents like manipulation or fake voting, I will quit my job and leave. I won't accept any pension money either."
