International Desk: Israel has been conducting a brutal offensive in Gaza for more than 23 months. Under the pretext of uprooting Hamas and freeing hostages, occupying forces continue daily massacres in the besieged enclave. Israel’s sudden attacks have also affected Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. In short, over the past two years, Israel has become a festering source of conflict in the Muslim-majority Middle East. Despite global condemnation and protests, the United States continues to provide unconditional support to the Netanyahu administration’s aggressive actions.
Emboldened by such backing from its closest ally, the occupying state appears increasingly reckless. Recently, Israel’s attacks have also targeted Qatar and Tunisia. Within just 72 hours, Israel launched assaults on Qatar, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen, and Palestine. In Gaza alone, a series of strikes by Israeli forces have killed at least 150 people and injured hundreds more.
This information was reported by Al Jazeera on Thursday (11 September).
The media outlet reported that on Tuesday, Israel carried out an airstrike in Doha, Qatar, targeting a meeting of Hamas leaders. The meeting was convened to discuss a U.S. proposal for a Gaza ceasefire.
At least six people were killed in the strike, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, his office director, three bodyguards, and one Qatari security official. However, top Hamas leaders are reported to have survived.
Meanwhile, Israeli attacks in Gaza, which began on Monday, have killed at least 150 people and injured more than 540 Palestinians. On Monday alone, 67 people were killed and 320 were hospitalized with injuries. Among the victims, 14 were killed while collecting relief supplies, and six others, including children, died of starvation. On Tuesday, 83 more were killed and 223 injured.
Since the outbreak of war in Gaza in October 2023, at least 64,656 people have died, including 404 from starvation. Many more remain missing under the rubble and are presumed dead.
On Monday afternoon, at least five people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon’s Bekaa and Hermel regions. Israel claimed it targeted Hezbollah weapons depots and military facilities, although this has not been independently verified.
Israel now conducts almost daily attacks on Lebanon, violating ceasefire agreements. On Tuesday, a Hezbollah member was injured in an Israeli drone strike in Barja village, south of Beirut.
On Monday night, Israeli warplanes struck an airbase in Homs and a military barrack near Latakia in Syria. Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks as violations of national sovereignty and direct threats to regional security. Since the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes targeting Syrian military infrastructure. This year alone, nearly 100 attacks have killed at least 61 people.
On Monday night, Israel launched a drone strike on a vessel named Family Boat at the Sidi Bou Said port in Tunisia. The 23-meter-long boat carried six passengers. Although a fire broke out, it was quickly brought under control. The following night, a similar attack targeted the UK-flagged ship Alma off the Tunisian coast.
Most recently, on Wednesday, Israel carried out an airstrike in Sanaa, Yemen, targeting Houthi positions and damaging the airport. Earlier this month, the same airport had also been targeted.
Previously, on 28 August, an Israeli attack killed several senior officials, including Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahaui of the Houthi government.
