DUCSU Election Irregularities: One Polling Officer Withdrawn

News Desk: Voting is underway in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. A polling officer has been withdrawn following allegations of irregularities.

On Tuesday (September 9) at around 11:15 AM, the returning officer of the Carzon Hall examination center, A.M. Mohiuddin, removed the officer from duty.

Earlier in the morning, at a booth of Amar Ekushe Hall in Carzon Hall, allegations surfaced that a polling officer, Ziaur Rahman, had provided a voter with a pre-filled ballot. Upon receiving the complaint, the returning officer inspected the booth immediately and, after verifying the claim, withdrew Ziaur Rahman from duty.

Acknowledging the incident, polling officer Ziaur Rahman stated that it was an unintentional mistake.

This year, a total of 39,874 voters are eligible to vote, including 20,915 male voters and 18,959 female voters.

A total of 471 candidates are contesting 28 posts in this DUCSU election, comprising 409 male and 62 female candidates. Key contests include 45 candidates for Vice President (VP), 19 for General Secretary (GS), 25 for Assistant General Secretary (AGS), and 17 for the Freedom and Democratic Movement Secretary position.

Other posts include 11 candidates for Common Room, Reading Room, and Cafeteria Secretary, 14 for International Secretary, 19 for Literature and Cultural Secretary, 12 for Science and Technology Secretary, 9 for Research and Publication Secretary, 13 for Sports Secretary, 12 for Student Transport Secretary, 17 for Social Service Secretary, 15 for Health and Environment Secretary, 11 for Human Rights and Law Secretary, and 15 for Career Development Secretary.

Additionally, 217 candidates are competing for 13 member positions.
