Youth Arrested in Sharsha, Jashore for Allegedly Demanding Extortion from Businessman

Police from Sharsha Police Station in Jashore have arrested a young man named Abdur Rahman (25) on charges of demanding Tk 3 lakh in extortion from a local businessman. The arrestee is the son of Ruhul Amin Tutul Driver from the Bagachhra Bazar area. Following the incident, businessman Ruhul Amin filed an extortion case at Sharsha Police Station.

According to the case statement, on July 21, Ruhul Amin's son Masud Pavez Rizvi (21) was heading to the market via College Road in Bagachhra. Near a local tea stall owned by someone named Ismail, Abdur Rahman and 8–10 accomplices intercepted him. They told Rizvi, “Your father is a big businessman in Bagachhra Bazar. Tell him to pay us Tk 3 lakh in extortion. Otherwise, we will beat both you and your father wherever we find you.” The accused then brutally assaulted Rizvi.

Following this, Ruhul Amin filed a case at Sharsha Police Station against Abdur Rahman and several unnamed individuals. On Wednesday, police arrested the prime accused, Abdur Rahman, and sent him to judicial custody through the court.

It is noteworthy that Abdur Rahman has previous allegations against him in the Bagachhra Bazar area, including drug abuse, extortion, and eve-teasing.

When asked about the matter, Sharsha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Robiul Islam confirmed the incident and said that Abdur Rahman had been arrested and sent to jail in connection with the extortion case.
