International Desk: India has been accused of throwing 40 Rohingyas from Myanmar into the sea. The United Nations has launched an investigation into this horrific incident.
The UN human rights organization says that the Indian government has recently been trying to forcibly return Rohingyas from Myanmar. As part of this, dozens of Rohingya refugees living in Delhi were detained. Of these, about 40 refugees were thrown into the sea.
Before being thrown, they were blindfolded and taken to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and taken to an Indian Navy ship there. After the ship crossed the Andaman Sea, the refugees were thrown into life jackets and forced to swim to an island inside the Myanmar border.
The statement also said that the refugees probably reached the island by swimming, their current condition and whereabouts are not known.
Not only that, about 100 Rohingya refugees have been removed from a detention center in the Indian state of Assam and taken to a place near the Bangladesh border. The UN has said that any attempt to forcibly return Rohingya refugees must stop.
The UN has appointed an expert to investigate the incident. It has also warned the Indian government not to subject any refugees to such inhumane treatment in the future.
Lawyers for the UN refugee agency said that the detainees were not presented to the court as per Article 22 of the law, which violates the Indian constitution.
