International Desk: Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi may break the ongoing ceasefire and launch another attack on Pakistan.
In an interview with Pakistani news outlet Geo News on Wednesday (May 14), Khawaja Asif said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently under political pressure and cornered. Modi has lost his political capital. Due to stress and declining popularity, he may make a sudden reckless decision. If Modi takes any desperate step out of frustration, Pakistan will respond firmly—and not only that, India will also have to face global pressure.
Khawaja Asif added, “Let me say this as well—Pakistan did not agree to the ceasefire due to any global pressure. The United States and other allied countries proposed and supported it, and that’s why we agreed to the ceasefire. Now, it is the responsibility of India’s allies to restrain Modi from taking any reckless decision.”
On April 22, a group of terrorists attacked Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, Anantnag district of India’s Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 tourists with automatic rifles. All of the victims were men, and most of them were followers of the Hindu religion.
A few hours after the attack, a terrorist organization named The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility through a statement. Initial investigations revealed that TRF is a branch of the Pakistan-controlled Kashmir-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Following the surprise attack, India took several diplomatic measures against Pakistan, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and revoking visas for Pakistani citizens. In response, Pakistan also imposed countermeasures such as closing its airspace to India and cancelling Indian visas.
Amid this ongoing tension between the two countries, on Tuesday, India’s defense forces conducted a brief military operation named "Operation Sindoor" in various areas, including Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to New Delhi, 70 Pakistani terrorists were killed in the operation. However, Pakistan claims that 31 were killed and 57 injured.
