After completing his Qatar visit, the Army Chief returned to the country today

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman returned to the country today, Monday (May 5), after completing his official visit to Qatar. The matter has been confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).

During the visit, he paid courtesy calls and held meetings with high-ranking military and civilian officials, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, the Minister of State for Interior, the Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, and the Deputy Chief of the Internal Security Force.

On Saturday (May 3), the Army Chief met with the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. They discussed various topics of mutual interest between the two countries' Olympic Committees, sports-related training, enhancement of bilateral relations, and the potential establishment of an 'Olympic Village' in Bangladesh.

The next day, Sunday (May 4), the Army Chief held separate courtesy meetings with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense, His Excellency Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, and Minister of State for Interior, His Excellency Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani.

In the meetings, they discussed enhancing military cooperation, the prospects of a defence industry based on local technology, and the exchange of skilled manpower, among other topics.

Additionally, the Army Chief met with the Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Jassim bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Mannai. The discussion emphasised strengthening ties between the armed forces of both countries, training support, joint training, exchange of trainees, and employment opportunities in Qatar for retired army personnel.

It is worth mentioning that the Army Chief embarked on this official visit to Qatar on Saturday, May 3.
