We must continue our all-out fight to establish voting rights: Shama Obaid

Faridpur Correspondent: BNP Organizing Secretary Shama Obaid Islam said, Hasina has left but the brothers have not gone into conspiracy. The saddest thing is that the Awami League is trying to return by riding on the shoulders of those who were not among us for the last 15 years, whom we have never seen in any movement or struggle. 

He said, Bangladesh is now going through the biggest transitional period. We have not yet got the right to vote. Many of our brothers and friends have not yet been able to see a ballot paper stuffed into a box. Sheikh Hasina has turned the election into a farce. We will have to continue our all-out fight to establish that right to vote.

Shama Obaid said this as the chief guest at the Iftar Mahfil pre-discussion meeting organized by Faridpur District BNP Joint Convener Syed Zulfikar Hossain Jewel at Ambika Maidan in the city on Sunday (March 16) evening. 

Shama Obaid said, "In all the 17 years of war, hardship, injustice, sacrifice, and suffering, our mother of democracy, Begum Khaleda Zia, has made the most sacrifice. She was unjustly imprisoned for six years on false charges. We also heard that she was poisoned while in prison. She was told that if you apologize to the President, you will be granted bail. Even then, she did not bow to tyranny. Khaleda Zia made the biggest sacrifice for Bangladesh, for democracy, for independence, and for sovereignty."

District BNP Joint Convener Zulfikar Hossain Jewel presided over the meeting, which was also addressed by District BNP Convener Syed Modarres Ali Isa, Faridpur DAB President Dr. Mostafizur Rahman Shamim, Joint Conveners Afzal Hossain Khan Palash, Fazlul Haque Tulu and Azam Khan, District Jubo Dal President Md. Rajib Hossain, General Secretary Md. Jahangir Hossain, District Volunteer Dal Convener Mozammel Hossain Mithu, etc.

Metropolitan BNP Convener AFM Qayyum, along with leaders and activists of BNP and allied organizations and others were present.
