'Afghanistan is not our enemy': Imran Khan

International Desk:   Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has said to the country's government, 'Afghanistan is not our enemy, why are they trying to make it our enemy? Why are you trying to start a war with your Muslim brothers?'

Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, told reporters on Tuesday, quoting her brother. 

Imran Khan raised this question immediately after the Pakistani government indicated that it would take action on the Afghan border. 

Geo TV reported this information in a report on Wednesday (March 19). 

Imran Khan's comments came at a time when the country's civilian and military leadership met in an in-camera meeting of the parliamentary committee on national security, amid rising incidents of terrorism in the country - especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. 

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Shahbaz, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Asim Malik, Chief Ministers of four provinces and other top officials.

However, several important figures, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and members of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), did not attend the high-level meeting.

The military leadership briefed the participants on the overall security situation in the country.

The high-level meeting comes days after the horrific train attack by the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) terrorists last week. The closed-door meeting is also believed to have taken place in the backdrop of alarming statistics released in the Global Terrorism Index 2025 report, which ranked Pakistan as the second most affected country by terrorism.
