Registration number will be on the food product packaging

Under the new system, the registration number of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) must be mentioned on the packaging of every food product. As a result, consumers can learn about the registration of the respective establishment just by looking at the product packaging. If there are any complaints, a complaint can also be lodged by mentioning the registration number.

In the primary stage, applications for registration and licensing can be made from the respective district office of the Food Safety Authority. Subsequently, there is a plan to phase in a 100% online application system.

What happens if business is conducted without a license?

The Food Safety Authority has stated that running a food business without a registration or license, despite it being mandatory, is a punishable offense under the relevant provisions of the Safe Food Act, 2013.

Therefore, the authority has urged all food traders and establishments that fall under the system, which will come into effect from November 1, to complete their preparations for obtaining registration and licensing within the stipulated time.
