UN 'deep-seated bastion of anti-Semitism': Alice Stefanik

Online Desk:  US President Donald Trump's potential UN ambassador-designate, Republican Congresswoman Alice Stefanik, has called the UN a "deep-seated bastion of anti-Semitism." She also called the UN a center of "hate and moral decay" in a speech delivered Monday at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) conference in New York City.  

Stefanik said, "We know that the United Nations is a truly anti-Semitic institution, plagued by anti-Israel and anti-American hatred and moral decay. Especially since the October 7 attacks, the United Nations has repeatedly betrayed Israel, which is tantamount to America's betrayal. The United Nations is now defending Iran and its terrorist groups." 

His nomination is awaiting confirmation in the Senate, although it is likely to be easily approved due to the Republican majority. However, this process is currently suspended due to the Republican majority crisis in the House of Representatives. Currently, Dorothy Shea, a diplomatic career officer, serves as the US Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to the United Nations.  

Stefanik has always taken a strong stance against the Gaza war and anti-Semitism on campus. However, while speaking at the ADL conference, he faced protests from some in the audience, especially when he claimed that the October 7 attacks would not have happened if President Trump had been in office.  

He said, "I believe it is clear that if President Trump had been in power, the events of October 7 would never have happened." After his statement, some viewers reacted negatively to him.  

Stefanik also claimed that the Trump administration is changing the course of history by supporting Israel and working to eliminate anti-Israel sentiment at the United Nations. 

"Everyday Americans understand that it is important to support Israel's fight. For those who are chanting 'Death to Israel' are also chanting 'Death to America.' These terrorists not only want to destroy Israel, but also to uproot America. We will never bow our heads to them," he said.
