Economy Desk: Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansoor said that at least 10 banks have gone into a bad state of bankruptcy. But the government is trying to save these banks.
The governor said these things while talking to journalists on current affairs at Bangladesh Bank on Sunday.
He said, "We don't expect any bank to go bankrupt, but that too many banks are going bankrupt." The condition of the bank is like this at 10 o'clock. The government is trying to save these banks. The governor spoke about 10 banks but did not mention their names.
He said that no matter the condition of the banking sector, there will be no loss to the customers, therefore the deposit insurance has been increased from Tk 1 lakh to Tk 2 lakh. Interests of 95 percent customers of the banking sector will be ensured. No country in the world guarantees 100% deposit of banking sector. We also give 95 percent guarantee.'
Noting that the account of any organization has not been seized from Bangladesh Bank, he said, "Be it S Alam's or Salman F Rahman's." No organization's bank account has been seized.'
The governor also warned that if anyone buys S Alam's property, he will buy his own responsibility, Bangladesh Bank will not take his responsibility.
He said that 70 thousand crore rupees went out of the banking sector, about 30 thousand rupees came back.
