The second batch of radioactive fuel reached Rooppur in maximum safety

Pabna Correspondent:  A rejected stick of fresh nuclear fuel (uranium) assembly stick or radioactive fuel of the first unit of Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant has arrived at Ishwardi in Pabna. When the vehicle carrying radioactive fuel entered the Rooppur project area in strict security from Dhaka on Friday morning, the project director Dr. One was adopted under the leadership of Jahedul Hasan.

Dr. Jahedul Hasan said, 'On Thursday afternoon, the replacement radioactive fuel (uranium) stick for the first unit from Russia arrived in Dhaka by special plane. Today, Friday (November 1) around 7 am, this shipment left Dhaka by road and successfully reached Rooppur in Ishwardi. He also said that last year, a total of 168 fresh nuclear fuel (uranium) assembly sticks reached Rooppur project from Russia in seven shipments for the first unit. Startup of the first unit is in progress. This process takes 9 to 12 months.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer (OC) Shahidul Islam said that strict security measures were taken till the vehicles carrying uranium reached Rooppur.

Earlier, a total of 168 fresh nuclear fuel (uranium) assembly sticks reached Rooppur in seven shipments from September 29 to November 10, 2023 for the first unit to generate 1,200 MW of electricity. Reactor assembly work on the first unit was successfully completed last October. The first unit is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025 and the second unit by the middle of next year. The two units will generate a total of 2,400 MW of electricity.
