Plane crashes in Kathmandu with 19 passengers, 18 killed

International Desk: A plane of Nepal has crashed. The plane crashed while taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport in the capital Kathmandu. There were 19 passengers on the plane. 18 dead bodies have been recovered from the accident site.

Himalayan Times reported this information in a report on Wednesday (July 24). According to reports, a Solar Airlines plane has crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.

The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara met with an accident during take-off.  The plane was reportedly carrying only technical staff of the airline. In a separate report, the Nepali media Kathmandu Post reported that a Sourya Airlines plane crashed during takeoff at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday.

Casualties have been reported in this accident.  Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) spokesperson Subas Jha said the accident occurred after the Pokhara-bound flight skidded off the runway during take-off.

The plane was carrying 19 passengers including crew members. According to preliminary information, 18 bodies have been recovered from the accident site. Captain MR Shakya was rushed to the hospital, said Jha. Thick smoke is visible at the airport. Police and firemen are carrying out rescue operations at the accident site.

According to eyewitnesses, the aircraft took off from the southern end of the runway (Koteshwar side) and suddenly overturned and fell to the ground. Immediately the plane caught fire. The aircraft then crashed into a low section on the east side of the runway between the Buddha Air Hangar and the radar station.
