International Desk: The autonomous island of Taiwan has been shaken by an earthquake of magnitude 6.1. The earthquake occurred at 7:35 am local time on Friday. Taiwan's Central Meteorological Administration (CWA) said in an initial message that the earthquake had a magnitude of 6.3.

However, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) later reported that the quake had a magnitude of 6.1 and had its origin off the east coast of the island, at a depth of 15 km. No casualties have been reported so far in the earthquake. Prior to this, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit Taiwan last April, which was the island's largest earthquake in 25 years. At least 17 people lost their lives in this earthquake.
