Information Technology Desk: As Bangladesh's parliamentary elections approach, TikTok is stepping up efforts to counter misinformation on its platform and maintain integrity in elections. The platform's latest initiatives highlight TikTok's strong commitment to maintaining a safe, transparent and reliable information environment at this critical time.

Based on the world's most widely used framework for detecting misinformation, TikTok is collaborating with IFCN-accredited fact-checking organization 'NewsChecker' specifically to review the electoral context of Bangladesh. Through this, TikTok has acquired the ability to identify possible misinformation and take action against it with the users of the platform and share accurate information by analyzing important events related to elections.

TikTok's fact-checking partnership does not directly control content on the platform. But their valued input helps TikTok take steps that appropriately support its Community Guidelines.

Various steps taken by TikTok to maintain the integrity of the platform include raising awareness among users and highlighting participatory activities. TikTok has created a hub on the platform called 'Bangladesh Election Center', which is available in both English and Bengali languages. It will help users with important information related to voting procedure and local elections. In addition, streamlined reporting tools will enable users to easily identify and report potentially misleading content. This user-oriented approach will essentially encourage an informed and responsible community, which is important during elections.

TikTok is also providing educational content and in-app guides to raise awareness among its users. These initiatives are designed to equip the community with the skills needed to discern credible information, thereby strengthening informed participation in the electoral process.

Implementation of TikTok's Community Guidelines, available in both English and Bengali, is a key component of its anti-misinformation measures. The platform uses a multi-pronged approach, including removing content that violates community guidelines, redirecting search results to authoritative sources, and reducing the discoverability of unverified information. This approach ensures that TikTok is a safe platform, free from election-related misinformation.
