News Desk: Awami League General Secretary and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that BNP is running misleading and unreasonable propaganda about the election due to the fear of their lack of public support. But the people of Bengal do not trust BNP and none of the plans of BNP will succeed. The upcoming National Assembly elections will be held in a peaceful and fair environment through the spontaneous participation of the voters. The government will be changed by the people's decision. He said these things in a statement signed by Awami League office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua on Thursday (July 6) afternoon.

In the statement, Obaidul Quader condemned and protested the false, baseless and politically motivated statement of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. He said that the spontaneous participation of the people in other elections including the recently held city corporation elections proves that there is great interest among the people in the elections. Even though the BNP and the political parties in their alliance did not participate in the elections, the voters cast their votes in all these elections. People have turned away from BNP. BNP has lost public support today.

The divided BNP is afraid to face the people. Therefore, they are engaged in multi-faceted conspiracies and mischief to make the election void of voters from anti-election position. In the statement, Obaidul Quader said that BNP is the proponent of voterless elections in this country. Military dictator Ziaur Rahman ran the gamut of achieving authoritarian legitimacy through so-called yes/no votes. And following her footsteps, Khaleda Zia organized a farce election without voters on 15 February 1996. During their time, the Election Commission had no opportunity to work independently and impartially.

Because the Election Commission was under the Prime Minister's Office. The Election Commission had no special capacity to organize a fair election. Sheikh Hasina, daughter of the successful statesman Bangabandhu, made the Election Commission an independent institution as per the constitutional provisions. Besides, Awami League General Secretary has increased the financial capacity of the Election Commission and said that no institution was run independently during BNP's rule.

In their time, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was a toothless tiger. Judiciary was run following the ideology of BNP. By appointing partisan and controversial people, they tarnished democratic institutions including caretaker government, Election Commission. No democratic institutions were established during their time, instead they destroyed democratic and constitutional institutions in a desperate attempt to ax power.

He said that BNP seized power and destroyed all institutions and made the state system ineffective. They will repeat that destructive politics if they come to power again. Because BNP traditionally has no faith in democratic system and constitutional process. On the other hand, the Awami League government under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina has increased all kinds of capacities of institutions in addition to building democratic institutions.
