International Desk: Several explosions rocked the Crimean Peninsula occupied by Russia. In 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin acquired the peninsula from Ukraine without bloodshed. Officials assigned to Russia in Crimea said that Ukraine launched at least 10 drone attacks on the peninsula on Sunday (May 7). The news of the major attack in Crimea came as the UN nuclear chief warned of a dangerous situation near the Russian-held Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

In addition, Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Russian mercenary army Wagner, threatened to withdraw his troops from Bakhmut in Donetsk. Russian officials and media reported that Russia's defense system began to respond to drone attacks after Ukraine launched them. But three drones nevertheless hit Sevastopol, Crimea's largest city. However, Crimean Governor Mikhail Razvozaev claimed that these attacks "did not damage any infrastructure".

A post from the Russian law enforcement agency's Telegram account, Baja, claimed Sunday's attack caused no casualties and damaged no infrastructure. However, the international media could not verify the truth of this claim. Besides, nothing was said about the attack from the side of Ukraine. Ukraine has been planning a counter-offensive for several days to dislodge Russian troops. And before this possible operation, there have been several attacks on the Russian mainland and occupied territories.
