9708 HIV patients in the country: Zahid Malek

News Desk:  Currently, the number of HIV patients identified in the country is 9708 and 1,890 people have died of HIV so far, Health Minister Zahid Malek said. He gave this information in a written reply to a question from Begum Lutfun Nesa Khan, a member of the reserved women's seat on Sunday (January 22).

Speaker at this time. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session. Sunday's questions and answers are presented on the table. The health minister said that currently the number of HIV patients in Bangladesh is 9,708, 6,075 are under treatment and 1,820 have died so far.

At present 11 government hospitals are providing free medicines to HIV patients. Free HIV testing is being conducted in 23 government hospitals. 8 NGO organizations provide free medicines to drug users. Health Minister Zahid Malek said that 134 drop-in centers are providing HIV prevention services to vulnerable groups through government and private partnerships.
