Verdict in Faridpur murder case after 11 years on September 15

Ehsan Rana, Faridpur: The date of verdict in the murder case of Mojibur Rahman Mia, a popular businessman of Saltha Upazila of Faridpur, has been fixed. After 11 consecutive years, on September 15, Additional Sessions Judge of Faridpur, Judge Ashok Kumar Dutta of the first court is expected to announce this verdict. Businessman Mojibur Rahman Mia is the son of deceased Fakaruddin Mia of Raghuarkandi village in Gotti Union of Mia Upazila and father of Daily Kale Kantha and Saltha-Nagarkanda Correspondent of Dhaka Times, Nurul Islam. Zainal Abedin, lawyer of Faridpur George Court, said that we have applied for maximum punishment for the accused. However, the defense counsel argued for their acquittal. 22 witnesses in the case testified in court. As the witnesses have been able to prove the truth of the case, we hope that the accused will get the maximum punishment in this case. Advocate Zainal Abedin Bakul Mia, the lawyer of the plaintiff in the case, said that after hearing the arguments of both sides at around 12 o'clock on Monday (August 29), the court fixed September 15 as the date for announcing the verdict. Among the seven accused in this case, the main accused Himel Khan is absconding. Arguments were presented to the court in the presence of the rest of the accused. Journalist Nurul Islam, the plaintiff in the case, said, I demand maximum punishment for those involved in my father's murder. The criminals should not be acquitted. An example should be set so that no one else gets killed like my father. It is to be noted that before the murder, the main accused in the case, Himel Khan, stole the motorcycle of Rezaul Mia, the son of murdered businessman Mujibar Mia. In this incident, Mujibar Mia filed a case against Himel in the court. After filing the case, on October 24, 2010 late at night, the accused called him from his house and brutally killed him and tied him to a tree. Journalist Nurul Islam, son of deceased Mujibar Mia, filed a murder case accusing Himel Khan, Alamgir Khan, Jewel Khan, Sohail Khan, Sakil Khan, Azgar Khan and Ilyas Molya in this incident.
