Pickup truck hit from behind in Sreepur, 2 killed

Sripur (Gazipur) Correspondent:  Two construction workers were killed when a pickup carrying construction workers was hit by a drum truck from behind in Sreepur, Gazipur. 12 people including a woman construction worker were injured in this incident. 

The accident took place on Saturday (May 4) at 4:30 am near Madhya Bhangnahati (Hazrat Ali Mandal Forkaniya Madrasa) of Sreepur Municipality.

The deceased are Russell Mia (25), son of Abdur Razzak of Dulora village of Sunamganj Sadar police station and Abu Sufian (27), son of Amir Hossain of Bhulora village of the same police station.

The injured in the incident are Khairul Islam (22), son of Shahidul Islam of Char Sholakia village of Kishoreganj, Parveen (42), wife of Shahab Uddin of Netrokona, Alamgir Hossain (16), son of Shahjahan of Samarchar village of Shalla upazila, Sunamganj, Abu Hanif (20), son of Shukkur Mahmud, of the same village. Surya (28) son of Shahjahan Fakir, Amir Mia (50) son of Abdul Gani Mia, Lal Mia (40) son of Dhanai Mia of Bajendraganj village of the same upazila, Noor Islam (20) son of Abdur Rashid of Dirai upazila, Ambia wife of Samar Ali of Neigaon village of the same upazila. (30), Wahab Uddin (30) son of Ainuddin of Garia village, Mohsin (28) son of Ferdous Mia of Bir Ahmadpur village of Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh, Ershad (25) son of Fazlul Haque of Dulora village of Sunamganj Sadar upazila, Rasel (20) son of Abdur Razzak of the same village. .    

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sreepur police station Abdul Quddus confirmed the truth of the accident and said that 14 construction workers were going to Mauna intersection after work from Gosinga area of ​​the upazila. On reaching the place adjacent to Bhangnahati (Hazrat Ali Mandal Forkaniya Madrasa) on Sreepur-Maona road, a speeding drum truck rammed the pickup from behind causing it to overturn on the side of the road. Meanwhile, two construction workers were killed on the spot and 12 people, including a woman worker, were injured.

Sara Faruqi, a doctor on duty at the emergency department of Sripur Upazila Health Complex, said that 14 people were brought to the hospital in the road accident. Among them, Russell Mia and Sufian were found dead. 3 seriously injured people were sent to Gazipur Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital and 6 people were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The remaining 3 people have been kept under treatment in this hospital.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sreepur Police Station Abdul Quddus said that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered. In this incident, the truck involved in the accident has been impounded but the driver escaped. Further legal action will be taken pending the application of the relatives of the injured and deceased.
