Laying Wreath of Volunteer League at Banani Cemetery on Sheikh Jamal's Birthday

News Desk:  On the occasion of the 71st birthday of the second son of the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the brave freedom fighter martyred Lt. Sheikh Jamal, Bangladesh Awami Swachhasevak League has laid a wreath at his grave.

On Sunday (April 28) at 9 a.m., Bangladesh Awami Volunteer League laid wreaths at the grave of martyr Sheikh Jamal under the leadership of organization president Gazi Mejbaul Hossain Sacchu and general secretary Afzalur Rahman Babu.

Sheikh Jamal was born on April 28, 1954 in Tungipara village of Gopalganj district.

He passed Secondary from Dhaka Residential Model College and Higher Secondary from Dhaka College. He was a culture lover and a sportsman.

Sheikh Jamal was also under house arrest along with other family members during the Great War of Liberation in 1971. Escaped from there, he participated in the frontal war in Sector 9 of the Liberation War.

On August 14, 1975, he served as a battalion duty officer in the cantonment. That night, he returned from the cantonment to the house of Dhanmondi number 32. Sheikh Jamal, along with other family members, were martyred by the assassin's merciless bullet before the first sun rays of the day brightened the water of Dhanmondi Lake in the early morning of August 15. On the occasion of Sheikh Jamal's birthday, various organizations including Bangladesh Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League have laid wreaths at Banani cemetery from this morning.
