Now Is the Right Time to Invest in Bangladesh: Italian Ambassador

The Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Antonio Alessandro, has said that the country is currently an ideal destination for business and investment due to its stable political environment.

He made the remarks on Thursday (9 July) during a Business-to-Business (B2B) workshop held at the conference hall of the World Trade Center in Chattogram, where Italian textile machinery and technology companies met with Bangladeshi business representatives.

Ambassador Alessandro noted that bilateral trade between Italy and Bangladesh exceeds €2 billion. Of this, Italy imports goods worth approximately €1.6 billion from Bangladesh. He said Italian companies are ready to provide advanced machinery and technological support to help diversify products and improve quality in Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) industry.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen business ties and investment cooperation between the two countries by leveraging Chattogram's geographical and economic potential.

Mohammad Amirul Haque, President of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), said that Chattogram is rapidly emerging as one of Bangladesh's leading economic hubs. He highlighted the development of the China Economic Zone and a Free Trade Zone along the banks of the Karnaphuli River, as well as another Free Trade Zone being established in Matarbari. He also mentioned ongoing discussions on the proposed China–Myanmar–Bangladesh Economic Corridor (CMBC).

The workshop was attended by Mirza Salman Ispahani, Honorary Consul of Italy; Antonietta Baccanari and Cinzia Campanile, representatives of the Italian Trade Agency; former CCCI Senior Vice President M.A. Salam; former Vice President Syed Mohammad Tanvir; former Directors S.M. Abu Tayeb and M. Mohiuddin Chowdhury; along with representatives from various organizations in both countries.

In the concluding session, several Italian machinery companies showcased their technologies, products, and services through multimedia presentations.
