News Desk: The government has introduced a new design and series of ৳5 currency notes featuring the country’s historical and archaeological architecture.

The new note was officially released into circulation on Tuesday (May 19). The redesigned ৳5 note has been printed with the signature of Finance Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the note will initially be issued from the Motijheel office of Bangladesh Bank. Later, it will also be supplied through the central bank’s other offices.

The dimensions of the new note have been set at 117 millimeters × 60 millimeters. On the left side of the front of the note is an image of the historic Tara Mosque in Dhaka. A blooming design of the national flower, the water lily, has also been placed in the center. On the reverse side, the note features an image titled “Graffiti-2024.”

Among the security features is a watermark of the face of the Royal Bengal Tiger, along with a bright electrotype “5” beneath it and the monogram of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

A 2-millimeter-wide security thread has also been embedded on the left side of the note, which becomes clearly visible when held against light. Additionally, numerous “BANGLADESH” texts have been microprinted along the lower part of the front side.

Alongside the new ৳5 note, all currently circulating paper notes and metal coins will continue to remain valid.

Meanwhile, for currency collectors, a special non-exchangeable “specimen” version of the ৳5 note has also been printed. This sample note can be collected at a fixed price from the Bangladesh Bank Currency Museum.
