News Desk: President Mohammad Shahabuddin has called on Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to perform their duties with greater dedication in serving the people. He said that although field-level administrative officials are representatives of the government, above all they must always remember that they are servants of the জনগণ (people).

He made this call while speaking at an event held at Bangabhaban on Sunday (May 3) evening, marking the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference 2026.

The President paid deep tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War and the brave freedom fighters, stating that their sacrifices remain an eternal source of inspiration for the nation. He also remembered the contributions of national leaders, including the proclaimer of independence, martyred President Ziaur Rahman (Bir Uttam).

The President said that the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference serves as an important bridge between government policymaking and implementation. It provides an opportunity to make effective decisions through discussions on field-level problems and potentials.

He noted that public expectations are much higher in the current context. Therefore, it is essential to establish a transparent, accountable, and service-oriented administration to gain public trust. He urged officials to prioritise public interest in implementing government programmes and development projects.

The President instructed DCs to listen to the complaints of ordinary people and resolve them promptly. He also emphasised increasing the use of information technology to deliver easy and quality services at people’s doorsteps.

In the context of the global situation, he called for effective measures to tackle the energy crisis, strengthen market monitoring, and control commodity prices. He also stressed the proper use of public funds and preventing wastage.

He said the administration must remain alert in combating rumours, misinformation, and online crimes, and strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies.

The President emphasised modernising land management, ensuring the protection of women and children, developing youth skills, controlling drug abuse, and taking a firm stance against corruption.

He stated that a “zero tolerance” policy against corruption must be implemented by ensuring transparency and accountability at all levels of administration.

Speeches were also delivered at the event by Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, and Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah.

Secretaries to the President and senior military and civil officials were present at the event. The President later participated in several photo sessions.

He expressed hope that the Deputy Commissioners would play a significant role in the country’s development and public welfare through their talent and dedication.
