Don’t Force Us to Chant ‘High Court or the Streets’: Nahid.

News Desk: Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and a member of parliament, commented that attempts are underway to challenge the legitimacy of the referendum in court.

He made the remarks on Monday (March 3) while delivering the keynote speech at NCP’s divisional iftar and prayer event at the Station Club in Comilla.

Nahid Islam said, “Attempts are being made to question the validity of the referendum in court. We will not accept that. If the people’s verdict is taken to the courts, we too will have to take to the streets. We don’t want to chant slogans like in July—‘High Court or the streets.’ Don’t force us to give that slogan.”

Demanding swift implementation of all reforms in line with the people’s referendum, Nahid Islam added, “Don’t question the court itself by taking the people’s verdict to it.”

Regarding relations with India, he said, “Sheikh Hasina and the killers of Shahid Hadi Bhai must be sent to Bangladesh. Only then can we establish relations with India. Otherwise, there is no scope for good relations with India.”

The event was attended by NCP members including Secretary Akhtar Hossain, South Zone chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, North Zone chief organizer Sarjis Alam, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiya, and other central and divisional leaders.

Leaders from the 11-party alliance, including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, of Comilla division were also present.
