Measures are being taken for the security of candidates in the election: DMP Commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali announced that arrangements are being made for the security of all candidates in the 13th National Parliament election.

He conveyed this to journalists on Saturday (December 13) morning.

The DMP Commissioner said, "One person has been identified in connection with the shooting of Osman Hadi, an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency and spokesperson for the Inkilab Mancha. He will be arrested soon."

Stating that the matter is under investigation, he said, "Not much can be said right now. More details will be known later." Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali also reiterated that arrangements are being made regarding the security of all candidates in the upcoming election.

Details on the Incident

Earlier, a press release sent by the DMP stated that Osman Hadi, spokesperson for the Inkilab Mancha, was seriously injured in an attack by assailants riding a motorcycle in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area of the capital. The DMP is conducting a vigorous operation in the capital to arrest the attackers. The individual in the picture has been initially identified after analyzing CCTV footage from the scene. The DMP is actively searching for him.

It further stated: "If you have any information about the said individual or his whereabouts, you are kindly requested to inform the police immediately via the following mobile numbers or through 999. DC Motijheel: 1320040080, OC Paltan: 01320040132"

The release also mentioned that the identity of the informant will be kept confidential and they will be suitably rewarded.

On Friday afternoon, assailants on a motorcycle shot Osman Hadi in the Bijoynagar Box Culvert area and fled. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a seriously injured condition. Later that night, he was taken to Evercare Hospital in the capital for advanced treatment.
