Asif Mahmud announces his candidacy as an independent candidate in Dhaka-10 constituency

Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, who recently resigned as an advisor, has announced that he will contest the 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-10. He made the announcement this morning (Friday, 12 December) in a post on his verified Facebook page.

Earlier, on Wednesday (10 December), Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan resigned from his position as an advisor to the interim government. The news was confirmed to Ekushey TV by sources at the Chief Advisor’s office that evening.

Asif Mahmud stated that he will contest the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-10, which includes areas under Dhaka South City Corporation such as Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Hazaribagh, New Market, and part of Kamrangir Char.

He said, “I have neither the backing of a major political party, nor a large number of dedicated workers, nor the financial resources typically required. Your support and cooperation will be my only reliance. My accountability will be solely to you.”

He also urged citizens to vote “Yes” in the referendum to support reforms, saying, “I am not only a candidate for parliament, but also for the referendum. After so many lives were sacrificed, the opportunity for reform has come—vote ‘Yes’ in the referendum to make it a reality.”

It may be recalled that as a representative of the students who led the July uprising, Asif Mahmud served as an advisor to the interim government, overseeing the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
