No one has the power to derail the election: Press Secretary

No power in the world can derail the 13th National Parliamentary Election, said Mohammad Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.

He made the remark while speaking to journalists on Friday (12 December) at around 11:30 am, after paying respects at the Sureswar Darbar Sharif in Naria upazila of Shariatpur.

He said the people of Bangladesh are eagerly waiting for the upcoming election. “During the 15 years of dictatorship, people did not get any fair election. That is why everyone now wants a good election. Anyone who attempts to deteriorate law and order or take the law into their own hands will be dealt with sternly. Those who try to disrupt the election with unethical demands will also face strict action.”

Speaking about the participation of the banned political party, the Awami League, in the election, he said, “Those who belonged to the fallen autocrat’s party have themselves withdrawn from the election. If they were a political party, they would conduct peaceful movements. Instead, they took rifles and pistols and killed young boys. They thought that by killing many people, everyone would remain silent for another 15 years. Now, they have excluded themselves.”

The Press Secretary added that the government is fully prepared on the ground to ensure a free, fair, peaceful, and participatory election. He also urged everyone to remain vigilant against misinformation and violence during the election.
