“Tarique Rahman will return to the country, and BNP will participate in the elections under his leadership”

BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will return to Bangladesh and lead the party in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, according to BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury. He made the statement on Saturday (6 December) at a media briefing held at a hotel in Banani, Dhaka.

He said, “Tarique Rahman will return to the country soon. Everything is being prepared. He will lead the BNP in the next 13th National Parliamentary Election.”

Regarding Dr. Zubaida Rahman’s political participation, he stated that whether she enters politics or not is entirely her personal decision.

On the topic of Khaleda Zia’s foreign travel, Amir Khasru said that her trip to London depends on her health condition, and the doctors’ decision will be final.

He added that the coalition’s candidates will be finalized very soon. BNP Chairperson’s advisor Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that the Royal Air Ambulance from Qatar will arrive in Dhaka once Khaleda Zia’s medical board gives the green light.

He elaborated, “According to the medical board’s decision, the Royal Air Ambulance from Qatar will come to Bangladesh. They are fully prepared. Once the board finalizes its decision, the ambulance will take Begum Khaleda Zia to London for advanced treatment. The Qatar authorities are managing everything and are also arranging a state-of-the-art air ambulance from Germany.”

Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital since 23 November. A medical board, led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder and comprising specialist doctors, is overseeing her treatment. Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Tarique Rahman’s wife, is also part of this medical board. She arrived in Dhaka yesterday to accompany her mother-in-law to London for advanced treatment.
