News Desk: The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has instructed government primary school assistant teachers to withdraw their work stoppage and exam boycott programs and return to work immediately. The ministry has also issued a strict warning that if the order is not followed, action will be taken under disciplinary rules, the code of conduct, and criminal law.

This information was shared in a press release issued by the ministry on Wednesday (3 December).

The release states that some organizations of assistant teachers have been observing a work stoppage since 1 December and a complete shutdown from 3 December. The ministry has already taken steps regarding their demands. Proposals have been sent to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Public Administration about placing assistant teachers in the 11th pay grade, granting higher grades after 10 and 16 years of service, and ensuring 100% departmental promotion to the head teacher post. Ministry advisers have also discussed the issue with the Pay Commission and other responsible authorities.

On 7 August, a request was also sent to the 2025 National Pay Commission to upgrade the pay scale from the 13th to the 11th grade. Later, in a meeting with the Finance Division on 10 November, it was informed that a decision on upgrading the pay grade would be taken after receiving the Pay Commission’s report.

The press release further said that despite these initiatives, some organizations of assistant teachers have created obstacles to holding annual examinations in different places. In some areas, teachers who were willing to conduct exams were even harassed. Such programs, which put the education of young students at risk, are against government service laws and the code of conduct and are punishable under criminal law.

In this situation, the ministry has directed all assistant teachers to immediately return to work and properly complete the third-term examinations. It has warned that legal action will be taken against those who disobey the order.
