News Desk:
Heavy rains have suddenly hit Saudi Arabia, causing flash flooding in several areas. On Wednesday, after intense rainfall, roads in southern parts of Mecca were submerged, disrupting traffic. However, in the central area around Masjid al-Haram, only strong winds and cloudy skies were reported, with no rainfall.
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) of Saudi Arabia has issued a red alert for certain areas of Mecca, warning of heavy rainfall, hail, and flash floods that may continue through the night.
Videos circulating on social media show vehicles navigating waterlogged streets in areas including Difa‘k in southern Mecca, which have experienced heavy rain for a second consecutive day.
NCM spokesperson Hussain Al-Qahtani stated that from November 14 to 17, most regions of Saudi Arabia may experience moderate to heavy rainfall. He urged citizens to remain cautious, avoid low-lying areas, and follow official instructions.
According to the latest weather forecast, Mecca, Madina, Riyadh, Asir, Al Baha, Jazan, Qassim, Hail, Tabuk, Al Jouf, the Northern Borders region, and parts of the Eastern Province may face moderate to heavy rains. The forecast also warns of strong winds, hail, high waves, and flash floods, advising the public to monitor official updates and exercise caution.
The Mecca Province Crisis and Disaster Management Center has advised citizens and drivers to avoid valleys, tunnels, and low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Drivers traveling between Mecca, Jeddah, and Taif have also been cautioned about reduced visibility and slippery roads.
