Trump Reacts with Satisfaction Following Nancy Pelosi’s Announcement of Retirement

News Desk: Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement of her upcoming retirement has drawn sharp criticism from former President Donald Trump, who on Thursday described her as a “wicked woman.”

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office during a press briefing on reducing the cost of weight-loss drugs for Americans, Trump said, “I’m glad she is retiring.”

He added, “I think in stepping down, she has done the country a big service. I believe she was a huge burden on the nation. In my opinion, she was a wicked woman who caused a lot of damage to the country’s reputation and other areas. I think she was terrible.”

Pelosi had become one of Trump’s most vocal critics. Their tense relationship was well-known, especially during the final years of Trump’s first term when Pelosi led the House of Representatives.

She oversaw two impeachment proceedings against Trump—the first in 2019 over abuse of power, and the second following the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.

Pelosi also went viral in 2020 for dramatically tearing up a copy of Trump’s State of the Union address behind him. Notably, she did not attend Trump’s inauguration in January 2021.

In a recent CNN interview, Pelosi described Trump as a “horrible human being” and criticized him for not respecting the Constitution.

Trump, in turn, has repeatedly targeted Pelosi over the years, calling her “dishonest,” “wicked,” and “sick” during his 2024 election campaign speeches and rallies.

On Thursday morning, 85-year-old Pelosi announced in a video message that she will retire from representing San Francisco in Congress at the end of her current term in 2027.

As the first female Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and the first woman to lead a major political party in any chamber of Congress, Pelosi will leave Washington nearly 40 years after beginning her political career, cementing her legacy as one of the most powerful elected women in American history.

In her announcement, Pelosi said, “I have always told my colleagues in the House that no title—Speaker, Leader, Whip—has meant more to me than standing on the House floor and speaking for the people of San Francisco. I truly love serving as your voice.”
