News Desk: An application has been filed seeking the suspension of the High Court bail granted to former Kurigram Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sultana Parvin in the case concerning the alleged assault of journalist Ariful Islam Rigan, who was reportedly taken from his home at midnight under the pretext of a mobile court raid.
The application was submitted by Rigan’s lawyer, Ishrat Hasan, at the Appellate Division’s chamber court. Former DC Sultana Parvin’s lawyer, Advocate Faizullah Faiz, confirmed the development on Wednesday (17 September).
On 9 September, the High Court had granted Sultana Parvin six months’ bail. The order was issued by a bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Yusuf Abdullah Sumon. During the hearing, senior lawyers Zainul Abedin, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol, Advocate Faizullah Faiz, and Barrister Ziaur Rahman represented the applicant, while Advocate Ishrat Hasan appeared on behalf of journalist Rigan. Deputy Attorney General Sultana Akter Ruby represented the state.
Earlier, on 2 September, the court had rejected Sultana Parvin’s bail application and ordered her imprisonment. The order was issued by Kurigram District and Sessions Judge Mosammat Ismat Ara.
