News Desk: General Secretary of the Gana-Odhikar Parishad (GOP), Rashed Khan, has stated that the Awami League, Jatiya Party (JaPa), and the 14-party alliance will not be allowed to participate in elections before the conclusion of the ongoing trial.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (17 September) afternoon at a protest rally held at the Press Club in Dhaka, organized to condemn attacks on GOP President Nurul Haque Nur and other party leaders and activists.
Rashed Khan said, “Action must be taken against the Awami League, its ally the Jatiya Party, and the 14-party alliance. Their organizational activities should be banned. After the court delivers its verdict, if it deems that the Awami League, Jatiya Party, or the 14-party alliance pursue different political paths, we will have no objection.”
He added, “Before the trial concludes, these parties will not be allowed to conduct political activities in Bangladesh, nor participate in the upcoming election. Anyone attempting to give them a chance in the election will have to do so over our dead bodies.”
Rashed Khan also accused a section of the government of preventing the ailing Nurul Haque Nur from traveling abroad, claiming they fear it may damage the image of the army and police. He alleged that even after the Prime Minister’s announcement, the government is still delaying the process.
He further stated, “The interim government is failing to protect the leaders of the popular uprising. If the events of 1/11 return, none of us will be safe. Hasina has fled to India; we have nowhere to escape. If you cannot ensure security, then step down.”
