Singapore Expresses Interest in Expanding Trade Capacity with Bangladesh

Singapore has expressed keen interest in working closely with Bangladesh to enhance trade capacity. The commitment came from Singapore’s High Commissioner in Dhaka, Derek Loh, during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin on Monday at the adviser’s office in the Secretariat.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Commerce, the High Commissioner said Singapore would assist Bangladesh in strengthening the technological facilities of service-providing institutions as well as in improving the skills and capacity of their workforce.

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin noted that Singapore stands as a model for other countries due to its technological excellence in providing services. “There is much for Bangladesh to learn from Singapore. Both countries should focus on expanding trade and investment capacity to maximize opportunities,” he said.

During the meeting, both sides discussed various aspects of enhancing bilateral trade and investment relations and fostering mutual cooperation. Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, Singapore High Commission’s Chargé d’Affaires Michelle Lee, and Joint Secretary of the Commerce Ministry Shibir Bichitra Barua were also present.
