Do Not Keep the Government in the Dark: Finance Adviser

News Desk: Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has urged tax lawyers not to withhold taxpayers’ information and thereby keep the government in the dark. He also called for their cooperation in revenue collection.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Tax Representative Management System (TRMS) software on Sunday (14 September) at the National Revenue Board (NBR) Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka, Dr. Salehuddin emphasized transparency and timely service. The event was presided over by NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan.

Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said, “You are lawyers; do not keep the government in the dark. Offer some cooperation. If you expedite services for your clients, you will definitely see no reduction in income. In fact, providing efficient service is better than delaying payments and handling money unofficially.”

He added, “We are not saying you should provide services free of charge; that’s not possible. As lawyers, you have the right to charge fees. But if you provide excellent service, no one will object.”

Regarding the new software, the Finance Adviser remarked, “This is a highly significant development for the country’s economy. I would call it a milestone.”

He also thanked the officials involved in developing the software, noting, “Whenever we hear about apps being developed externally, there’s an increased tendency to hire from outside. This dependence leads to higher costs. Developing our own solutions internally is more efficient.”
