News Desk:
Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin has said that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) exhibition in Dhaka reflects the joint capabilities of China and Bangladesh.
The exhibition, organized at the Bashundhara Convention Center on Friday (September 12), highlighted bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, according to a press release from the ministry.
Speaking to journalists at the event, Sheikh Bashir Uddin said:
“We must identify our weaknesses and move forward through knowledge and experience-sharing. If we can utilize China’s expertise in production and packaging, Bangladesh will be able to progress further.”
He noted that while Bangladesh is the world’s second-largest exporter in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, the country still lags behind in other areas.
Seeking stronger Chinese support in infrastructure and transport, the adviser said:
“Every year, road accidents are claiming countless lives. It is urgent to modernize transport and improve road infrastructure.”
On reciprocal tariffs with the United States, he revealed that a U.S. government delegation will arrive in Dhaka on Sunday to discuss tariff issues and possible structural reforms in trade policy.
The BRI exhibition, hosted by the Chinese Embassy, brought together eight Bangladeshi and 32 Chinese companies from sectors including infrastructure, technology, telecom, healthcare, agriculture, energy, transport, and logistics.
The two-day exhibition will remain open to visitors from 10 am to 7 pm on September 12–13.
