Md. Shafiqul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner, has been appointed as the head of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The appointment was made through an order signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on Wednesday (August 27).
According to sources, Shafiqul Islam is a member of the 18th BCS batch. Prior to this appointment, he served as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Highway Police. The position of DB chief had remained vacant for four and a half months. On April 12, former DB chief Rezwanul Karim Mallik was transferred as DIG of Dhaka Range, after which a Joint Commissioner had been overseeing the unit.
Shafiqul Islam hails from Sariakandi upazila of Bogura. He completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Rajshahi University. In 1999, he joined the police cadre through the 18th BCS, marking the beginning of his professional career.
He started his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Lakshmipur. Later, he served as an Assistant Commissioner (AC) in Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
