BEF’s 2025-2027 term: Fazle Shamim appointed President and Tahmid Ahmed as Vice President

For the 2025-2027 term of BEF (Bangladesh Employers’ Federation), Fazle Shamim Ehsan has been elected as the new President, and Tahmid Ahmed has been re-elected as Vice President.

Fazle Shamim Ehsan is a leading figure in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry, specializing in sustainable production, ethical business practices, and progressive industrial leadership. Holding a bachelor’s degree in business studies, he currently serves as Managing Director of Fatulla Apparels Limited, an LEED Platinum-certified factory reflecting his commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible manufacturing.

Beyond his company, he plays a significant role in the industry as Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), advocating for fair pricing and workers’ welfare. Under BKMEA, he founded the ‘Responsible Business Hub,’ underscoring his active role in promoting ethical and sustainable business practices.

He has contributed extensively to industrial policy-making and has served three terms on the BEF executive committee, Bangladesh’s sole ILO-recognized employers’ organization.

His role in labor policy reform is notable as a member of the labor law and regulation amendment committee, and as an esteemed member of the government-appointed Bangladesh Labor Law Reform Commission, aiming to establish fairer working environments.

Internationally, Fazle Shamim Ehsan holds key positions as a board member of the International Apparel Federation (IAF) and Chairman of the STAR Network, an inter-Asian alliance representing over 35,000 garment manufacturers across Asia.

Besides his professional duties, he is actively involved in various social and cultural circles, including memberships in Kurmitola Golf Club, Dhaka Boat Club, Narayanganj Club Limited, Gulshan Youth Club, and ORWA, reflecting his active presence in professional and social spheres.

Tahmid Ahmed is a director of Bengal Glass Works Limited, engaged in the glass manufacturing business for nearly 45 years. He has long served as a member of the BEF executive committee. After receiving primary education in Dhaka, he pursued studies in England and Scotland. In 1972, he completed his Overseas School Certificate at Cambridge University, then enrolled in the Commerce Department at Dhaka College, earning a B.Com degree in 1976. Later, in 1979, he joined the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Dhaka University and obtained an MBA in Marketing.
