Home Affairs Advisor assures handing over Samya murder investigation to DB

News Desk: Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that the investigation into the murder of Samya, a student of the Institute of Educational Research (IER) department of Dhaka University, will be handed over to the intelligence agency DB.

On Sunday (May 18) afternoon, the Home Affairs Advisor gave this assurance when a delegation led by Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan met with him at his office at the Secretariat.

Professor Hosne Ara Begum, Director of the Institute of Educational Research, Dhaka University, and some student representatives were present at the meeting.

After the meeting, Professor Hosne Ara Begum said, we want a fair trial in the murder of Samya as soon as possible. The Home Affairs Advisor listened to us carefully and took notes.

At this time, Samya's friend SS Nahin Islam said, we had given a deadline of 48 hours to Shahbagh Police Station, but we did not get the expected progress. The Home Affairs Advisor has assured us that the investigation will be handed over to the DB and a trial will be held through a special tribunal.

Nahin said, although we are not completely satisfied, we are optimistic. We will be satisfied only when we see that the accused have been brought to justice. No decision has been taken yet on the withdrawal of the program. We will discuss with everyone and take the next step.

He also said that different political circles and parties on the campus are expressing their demands in different ways regarding the Samya murder incident. We have always said that we have only one demand - trial of Samya murder. We will do what we should do. We will discuss the program and take a decision together. If necessary, we will go for a tougher movement.

Our demand was visible progress. Since the Home Affairs Advisor has assured us and the investigation is being handed over to the DB, we are optimistic that we will see something positive.
