Two members of a broker gang at Pabna Mental Hospital sentenced to prison and fined

Pabna Correspondent: With the information and overall supervision of the National Intelligence Service (NSI), Pabna, two members of a broker gang at Pabna Mental Hospital have been sentenced to imprisonment and fined in a mobile court. 

On Monday (March 17) morning, a mobile court headed by Executive Magistrate Chowdhury Al Mahmud was held at Pabna Mental Hospital based on confidential information and overall supervision of the District NSI, Pabna office. 

Two members of the broker gang were sentenced to 15 days in prison and a fine of Tk 200. In default of payment, they were ordered to serve another 3 days in prison.

It is known that they have been harassing patients and their relatives from different parts of the country and extorting extra money. In addition, they are involved in fraud using the name and seal of the mental hospital.

The accused are Md. Mamun Hossain (36), son of the late Akash Pramanik of Kesmat Pratappur village, and Md. Mahidul Islam Kalu (38), son of Mofazzal Hossain of Hemayetpur village.

According to sources received from the District NSI, Pabna, 8 members of this office, including 2 assistant directors, were present on the ground in the area and collected information over the past few days.

At 10:30 this morning, an 8-member team led by 2 assistant directors reached the area and adjacent areas based on secret information and informed the NSI Pabna office about the location of the brokers. 

Later, when the Deputy Director, NSI Pabna, informed the District Commissioner about the matter, a team from Pabna Sadar Police Station led by an Executive Magistrate participated in the operation.

They also said that the harassment of brokers has increased recently at Pabna Mental Hospital. The raid has instilled fear among the brokers in the hospital and has brought some relief among the patients and their relatives who come from far and wide.
