Kurigram Correspondent: The Bangladesh Border Guard Force (BGB) has seized arms and ammunition smuggled from neighboring India at the Diyadanga border in Bhurungamari Upazila of Kurigram.
The matter was confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Mahbub-ul Haque, commander of Kurigram 22 BGB, on Saturday (March 15) morning. Earlier, on Friday (March 14) around midnight, these weapons and ammunition were seized from Pillar 985/3 S under the jurisdiction of Diadanga BOP in Pathardubi Union of the upazila.
BGB sources said that on Friday night, based on a secret information, a special patrol team of 19 members of the battalion headquarters and Diyadanga BOP led by Lt. Col. Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haq, commander of Kurigram 22 BGB Battalion, secretly took position. At that time, some people were seen coming from India into Bangladesh and suspicious of their behavior, so the patrol team chased them to arrest them, but they left their belongings with them and ran inside India. The patrol team searched the place and recovered ownerless weapons and bullets worth 826,200 taka and a motorcycle.
Kurigram Battalion 22 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haq said that the BGB is active in preventing all types of smuggling and arms smuggling at the border. Patrols have already been strengthened in the border areas of each BOP.
