If you forget your Gmail password, you will no longer receive a security code via SMS. From now on, you will have to scan a QR code. Google is going to introduce a new system. The SMS-based login verification method in Gmail may have been canceled at the end of last year. QR codes may be introduced instead.

Google's security and privacy PR chief Ross Richendreffer has confirmed that Google is going to introduce verification through QR codes instead of phone numbers. In the new method, users will see a QR code on the screen instead of receiving OTP on their mobile numbers. Verification will be done by scanning it. Currently, Gmail has a 'two-factor authentication' method. But this system is not completely secure either. Because the 6-digit code that is sent to the user via SMS can be hacked at any time. Users can be victims of phishing attacks and SIM-swapping. Therefore, the QR code system is being introduced to further strengthen the security system.
