News Desk: The price of a 12 kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder at the consumer level has been set at Tk 2,060, increasing by Tk 223 from Tk 1,837. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) issued a notification increasing the price on Monday evening (November 2). BERC stated that this price hike is due to the increase in international market prices as well as the enhancement of commissions for importers, dealers, and retailers. The new rates will come into effect after 8:00 PM tonight.

Although, gas has not been available in the market at the price declared by BERC since last month. Even though the price was increased by Tk 252 in October to make it Tk 1,837, it is being sold at Tk 2,200 to Tk 2,300 in the capital itself.

At the same time, the institution has also increased the price of autogas. The price of autogas per liter has been increased from Tk 84.62 to Tk 91.95. The price of autogas used in vehicles was Tk 73.09 per liter in September.

Alongside this, the commissions for sellers have also been increased. The storage and bottling charges of importers (including transportation costs from the operator's plant to the distributor) have been increased from Tk 200 to Tk 281.76 per 12 kg. The dealer's charge has been increased from Tk 50 to Tk 85, and the retailer's commission has been increased from Tk 45 to Tk 70.

The LPG market has become volatile since the third week of September. When the international market prices trended upward, importers reduced supply. As a result, the LPG priced at Tk 1,585 started trading at Tk 2,200 to Tk 2,500 in some places.
