Jamalpur Correspondent: Police have arrested a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) supporter named Azmain Hossain Lanju after an audio clip of him threatening to beat up police officers and journalists in Melandah, Jamalpur, went viral on social media. The Melandah police arrested him during an operation in the Purba Malancha area of the upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The arrested Lanju is the son of Suja Miah from that area.

According to the police, an audio clip from a Messenger group of the Melandah Upazila Chhatra Dal recently went viral on social media. In the audio, Lanju is heard saying, "If we can't beat up two or four journalists and police officers while BNP is currently in power, then what is the point of being in Chhatra Dal, tell me."

Regarding permission from Juwel, a local leader of the upazila Chhatra Dal, he further added, "If Juwel Bhai gives the nod, I'll give those journalists a proper beating. Later, I’ll talk to the MP Saheb and send them away." Other leaders in the audio were also heard planning to confine and beat up journalists who come to collect news, and later hand them over to the police station after informing the Member of Parliament (MP).

Once the audio went viral on social media, it triggered intense discussion and criticism throughout Melandah. As soon as the matter came to light, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Jamalpur district issued orders, prompting the Melandah police to conduct an operation and detain Lanju.

Moniruzzaman Shiplu Fokir, the convener of Melandah Upazila Chhatra Dal, stated that he would discuss the matter with the organization's leaders and activists to take the necessary action.

Confirming the incident, Jamalpur's Assistant Superintendent of Police (Madarganj Circle) Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan said that following the threat audio leak, the accused was arrested in a drive directed by the SP. Legal action against him is currently underway, and he will be produced before the court on Friday.
