Arson and death threats by flying letter in Ulipur, 1 arrested

Kurigram Correspondent: The police have arrested a young man named Sakhawat Hossain (33) in connection with arson and death threats by air mail in Ulipur of Kurigram. He is the son of Azahar Ali of West Shibbari village of Ulipur Municipality. It is known that on the morning of March 2, his wife saw an unaddressed letter while sweeping the yard of Azgar Ali's house in West Shibbari village.

After reading the letter to their younger son, he saw that there was a demand of 1 lakh rupees, various intimidation and threats were written. The threat asked to pay the subscription money through mobile phone. Azgar threatened to kill Ali and his children and set the house on fire if the money was not paid.

On the day of the incident, Azgar Ali and his family woke up late at night on March 11 after hearing a loud noise and saw a petrol bomb burning in front of the gate of his house. On his call, the locals came forward and extinguished the petrol bomb. Later, in the yard of the house, they found an unaddressed letter of extortion and death threats as before.

In this incident, the victim Azgar Ali filed a case at Ulipur police station. The investigating officer of the case, SI Mizanur Rahman, conducted a raid and arrested Sakhawat Hossain, who demanded extortion and threatened to kill, on Saturday (March 16) night. On Sunday (March 17) afternoon, Ulipur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Golam Mortuza said that the accused was arrested with the help of information technology. He was handed over to the learned court. Whether anyone else is involved in the incident is being investigated.
