Naogaon Correspondent: A discussion meeting was held on the occasion of the centenary of excavation of Paharpur Buddhist Vihar (Sompur Mahavihar). The discussion meeting was held at Naogaon District Press Club auditorium at 11 am on Saturday.

Naogaon Sahitya Parishad and Generation Alo-Generation Mela jointly organized this. Naogaon Sahitya Parishad Executive Member and Projanmer Alo Editor Principal Abdur Rahman Rizvi spoke in the chair of heroic freedom fighter poet Abul Kashem, former district press club president Imrul Kayesh, fiction writer Rabiul Karim, local social and cultural organization Ekushe Parishad advisor principal Siddiqur Rahman.

Social worker SM Samchul Alam, President of District Journalist Union, Editor of Dainik Prothom Sangbad Patrika Azad Hossain Murad, General Secretary of the organization Charyapad Researcher and Storyteller Ashraful Nayan, Former President Habib Ratan, Executive Editor of Penamana Alor Tahera Enayet Karim, Poet Rokeya Shakila, Aslam Hossain, Mohammad Nasir etc. It should be noted that well-known historians of Bengal, Akshay Kumar Maitreya and Kumar Sarathkumar Roy officially started the archaeological excavations of Sompur Vihar on March 1, 1923, and through these excavations, it was proved that it was a Buddhist temple and a large educational center at that time.

Speakers in the meeting raised the demand to expand the tourism industry by observing this day in a festive manner. Besides, to maintain the tradition of Paharpur Buddhist Vihara, he demanded to build a cultural university or a tourism motel in the district along with the establishment of a cultural research institute.
