3 robbers arrested in connection with attack on policemen in Gazipur

Gazipur Correspondent: RAB has arrested 3 dacoits from Keraniganj of the capital in connection with the attack on policemen on duty in Gazipur's Sreepur and brutally hacked two policemen. On Thursday night, the joint raid team of RAB-1 and RAB-10 arrested them.

The arrested are- the head of the bandit Md. Ismail Sardar alias Liton (38) associate Md. Kamrul Mia (20) and Md. Hanif alias Master (40).

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of RAB Legal and Media Wing, gave this information in a press conference organized at RAB Media Center in the capital on Friday (March 8) morning. Commander Moin said, the arrested are an organized inter-district robbery gang. Their team members are 8 to 10 people. Ismail is the leader of the dacoit gang and Hanif is one of his accomplices. They have been conducting house and shop robbery activities in different areas of the country including the capital Dhaka, Narayanganj and Faridpur.

Also, the dacoit group used to rob various sand ballgates in Shitalaksha river of Narayanganj for a long time. They also met other inter-district robbers who were in jail during their imprisonment in various cases and learned various techniques of robbery from them. Later, they were out on bail and were committing robberies using tricks learned from jailed robbers. He said that the gang of dacoits attacked the patrolling policemen of Gazipur's Sreepur police station with domestic sharp weapons and seriously injured them during a robbery on the Maona-Kaliakoir regional road of Sreepur, Gazipur on the night of March 3.

He said that as a strategy for the robbery of the arrested, 6 to 7 people, including the head of the group Ismail and his associate Hanif, went to Sreepur area of ​​Gazipur in a pickup from Keraniganj on March 3 in the afternoon for the purpose of robbery and started visiting convenient places for robbery from evening in Mauna area of ​​Sreepur.

On the same day, in the night of Sreepur's Mauna-Kaliakoir Regional Road, Hasikhali Bridge area of ​​Singardighi started a mass robbery by throwing tree branches on the road and threatening them with indigenous weapons. Commander Moin also said that when the Gazipur Sreepur Thana police reached the spot after receiving the news of the robbery, the members of the robber gang attacked the policemen with domestic sharp weapons. Policeman Constable Ruhul Amin sustained serious injuries on his head and Constable Salim Mia on various parts of his body. On receiving the information, additional police of Sreepur Police Station reached the spot while the robbers were fleeing. One of their members, Rubel, was injured in an accident with a moving vehicle and the law and order forces arrested him. He was later taken to a local hospital for treatment.

About the arrested persons, he said, accused Ismail used to supply the goods of a chemical company to Mitford Market in the capital for 10 to 12 years. He got involved in robbery in 2018 by meeting a member of a dacoity in Keraniganj area. Later, besides supplying chemicals to that market, he started robbing Keraniganj and surrounding areas at various times. At one point he quit his chemical supply job to start a gang of robbers himself. Meanwhile, he started driving Easybike under disguise to facilitate the robbery operation. The dacoit Sardar Ismail has 4 cases related to dacoities in Doha, Keraniganj and Munshiganj of Dhaka and he has served more than one year in jail in these cases.

Earlier, several gold shop robberies took place in Faridpur in 2023 under his leadership and after serving seven months in jail in this case, he was released on bail last month and resumed robbery activities. The arrested Hanif alias Master and Ismail lived in the same area. He is said to have been involved in robbery activities in 2011. He was one of the accomplices of the arrested Ismail and used to locate, strategize and plan various robberies. The inter-district bandit gang gives him the title of master because he is perfect in the robbery plan. Everyone knew him as Master. He served over two years in prison in 2013 in a murder case. He also has several robbery cases against him and served jail time in all these cases. The arrested Kamrul Dakat is one of the members of the gang. About 3 to 4 years ago, he joined Ismail's robbery gang based on his identity when he was staying with Ismail in Jinjira area of ​​the capital.

He used to work as a mason in those days to hide his robbery activities. He used to brief the arrested Ismail and the arrested Hanif with advance information about various places convenient for robbery in Gazipur area. That is why he used to come from Gazipur to Ismail and Hanif, who were arrested in Jinzira, from Gazipur to plan the robbery in Gazipur area and again went back to Gazipur and participated in the robbery as per the plan.
